When decay or injury reaches the inner pulp of a child’s tooth, treatment may be necessary to relieve discomfort, address infection, and preserve the tooth when possible. At Hapy Bear Surgery Center, we provide pulpotomies and pulpectomies in Tulare, CA as part of our pediatric dental services. These treatments are sometimes referred to as children’s root canal treatment and are selected based on the condition of the tooth and its pulp.
A pulpotomy is a type of pulp treatment that may be recommended when decay has reached the pulp inside the crown of a primary tooth, but the pulp tissue within the roots can still be preserved.
During a pulpotomy, we remove the affected pulp tissue from the crown of the tooth, treat the remaining tissue, and seal the tooth. Our goal is to preserve the primary tooth when it can be safely and predictably restored.
A pulpectomy may be necessary when infection or inflammation has affected the pulp throughout both the crown and roots of the tooth. This treatment involves removing the affected pulp tissue from the entire tooth, including the root canals.
We then clean and fill the canals with an appropriate dental material before restoring the tooth. A pulpectomy can help eliminate infection while allowing us to preserve the tooth when possible.
We recommend scheduling a dental evaluation if your child develops symptoms that may suggest advanced decay or pulp involvement, such as:
Persistent or significant tooth pain
Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
Swelling around a tooth or gum
Pain when biting or chewing
Significant decay or damage from dental trauma
Not every cavity requires a pulpotomy or pulpectomy. We evaluate the health of the pulp, the extent of decay, the condition of the tooth, and your child’s overall treatment needs before recommending care.
Primary teeth play an important role in your child’s oral development. They support proper chewing and speech while helping maintain space for permanent teeth. When a primary tooth can be successfully restored, children’s root canal treatment may allow us to keep the tooth healthy and functional until it is ready to fall out naturally.
At Hapy Bear Surgery Center in Tulare, we provide dental treatment under general anesthesia in our accredited ambulatory surgery center. This allows us to care for children who may be unable to safely or comfortably complete necessary dental treatment in a traditional dental office setting. Whenever appropriate, our goal is to complete your child’s necessary dental care efficiently while providing a controlled and supportive treatment environment.
If your child is experiencing tooth pain, advanced decay, or has been referred for pulp treatment, schedule an evaluation with Hapy Bear Surgery Center to discuss pulpotomies and pulpectomies.
